16. MISS ROSE QUARTZ

T HE COLOR OF A ROSE and the ultimate symbol of love, Rose Quartz has been used in love rituals and ceremonies for centuries. A stone for the love junkies and hopeless romantics, Rose Quartz is a member of the quartz family, which is made up of silicon dioxide. It gets it sweet soft-pink color from the many tiny inclusions of pink fibers known as dumortierite, which is embedded within the glassy stone. It also gives it an opaque quality, which is why Rose Quartz should be kept out of the sun to protect its pretty shade.

The ancient civilizations of Greece and Rome were the first to attach the symbol of love to the Rose Quartz meaning. According to myth, Cupid, the Roman god of desire, and Eros, the Greek god of love, gave humans the gift of love in the form of Rose Quartz. Another legend tells the story of Rose Quartz and its powers of love and reconciliation. When Adonis was attacked by Ares, who was in the shape of a boar, his lover Aphrodite came running to his aide. Along the way, she got caught on a briar bush and by the time she found her lover, a mix of their blood started to soak into the quartz stone, giving Rose Quartz its iconic rosy pink hue. The legend is a reminder of the Rose Quartz stone meaning and its powerful association with romantic love. In Native American cultures, the Rose Quartz meaning was used to soothe negative emotions like anger and disappointment by bringing love into newly harmonized emotions.

Going beyond romantic love, the Rose Quartz meaning is also strongly linked with compassion and unconditional love. With its versatility in applications and a gentle, diffused energy, Rose Quartz is one of the most popular crystal healing tools.

A heart chakra stone, Rose Quartz opens the heart and allows you to restore trust, an essential process for moving forward. If you have been holding onto negativity from the past, Rose Quartz can help you replace those dark feelings with pure thoughts of unequivocal love. Rose Quartz healing properties can help you understand and accept past situations, which will allow your heart to heal from emotional wounds and transform into a renewed state of trust.

Rose Quartz can also soothe your emotions by bringing the heart chakra into balance. Its soft, feminine energy brings tenderness back into this energy center. The lesson of Rose Quartz is to align with the energy of love in all aspects of your life, so that you can do everything from a place of love. [9]

VENETIAN MASKS ARE a centuries-old tradition of Venice, Italy. The masks are typically worn during the Carnival (Carnival of Venice), but have been used on many other occasions in the past, usually as a device for hiding the wearer's identity and social status. The mask would permit the wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters.

Venetian masks are characterised by their ornate design, featuring bright colours such as gold or silver and the use of complex decorations in the baroque style. Many designs of Venetian masks stem from Commedia dell'arte. They can be full-face masks (e.g. the bauta) or eye masks (e.g. the Columbina). [10]

THE KIMONO (着物, きもの) is a traditional Japanese garment. The word kimono literally means ki (着 "wearing", specifically on the upper body) + mono (物 "thing").

Over time, the kimono has come to be a T-shaped wrapped garment with set sleeve lengths, variations and a set way of construction. The plural of kimono is kimono, as Japanese does not distinguish plural nouns, though the English plural kimonos is also used. Kimono are often worn for important public holidays and festivals, and for formal occasions such as weddings and funerals.

The kimono is usually worn ankle-length, though women's kimono are longer as their kimono are folded at the hip. The collar is attached flatly, and always worn left over right (unless the person wearing the kimono is deceased). The kimono's sleeves reach the wrist, and variations of kimono may have sleeves long enough to touch the ground.

Kimono are tied with a sash called an obi, knotted at the back, though it is a series of ties called koshihimo ('waist cord/wrap') that actually keep kimono closed, as modern obi are too stiff to keep kimono in place. The obi is tied in a knot known as a musubi at the back, and there are many varieties of musubi based on formality, obi type and age. Kimono are generally worn with traditional footwear such as zōri or geta, and split-toed socks called tabi.

Today, kimono are most often worn by women, particularly on special occasions. Unmarried women traditionally wore furisode ('swinging sleeve') kimono, with almost floor-length sleeves, on special occasions, though even their casual kimono would have longer sleeves with rounded edges at the front. In modern times, a woman generally only wears furisode to special occasions, and stops wearing furisode in her early 20s, married or not. Men wear the kimono most often at weddings, tea ceremonies, and other very special or very formal occasions. [1]
